U.K. And U.S. TV Banner Nutopia Shuffles Management
Founded by former Discovery Channel president Jane Root, the company has hired Channel 4's Nav Raman.
LONDON – U.K. based Emmy-award winning TV documentary and reality production company Nutopia, created by former Discovery Channel U.S. president Jane Root, has reshaped its management team here.
Nutopia, best known for the Emmy-nominated America the Story of Us, a 12-hour series which included a contribution from President Barack Obama and became the most-watched special ever on History channel, has brought in Nav Raman as director of development and executive producer.
Raman joins from U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 where she was commissioning editor, factual entertainment.
Nutopia, which also boasts former Hollywood studio exec Carl Griffin as its acting managing director, has boosted Helena Tait to be its chief operating officer having most recently been head of production. Root continues as CEO.
Former deputy head of production Josh Wilkins takes up Tait's title and duties.
Tait's resume includes overseeing series such as Who Do You Think You Are while Wilkins produced specialist factual TV in the U.S. and in the U.K. helped make I Shouldn’t Be Alive and Mermaids for Discovery and The Queen for Channel 4.
Raman's output on her watch at Channel 4 includes Brat Camp, Super Nanny and Child Genius.
Rupert Brankin-Frisby, previously a consultant with Nutopia handling legal and business affairs, has been hired as commercial director.

Nutopia has also produced documentaries including Targeting Bin Laden, 9/11 State of Emergency for History US and Channel 4, Adrift and Rogues for Discovery Shark Week and the King of Christmas Lights for Channel 4.
Former Channel 4 CEO Michael Jackson and Peter Bazalgette, the former CEO of Endemol are Nutopia board members.
