"The Forger" and "This Is Where I Leave You" actress and her hairstylist/makeup artist Sunnie Brook Jones share their secrets to creating three different looks worthy of three standing ovations at New York Fashion Week.

It's rough work being invited to sit in the front row at fashion week, but someone's got to do it. And this week, one of those someones is actress Abigail Spencer, who is making her way to various fashion fetes in a face worthy of a catwalk-style close-up. And for each event she attends, makeup artist and hairstylist Sunnie Brook Jones is at Spencer's side helping design the day's look. Spencer and Jones gave us a glimpse into their process (not to mention makeup bags) for three different fashion week events so that we too can attempt to look like a starlet sitting in VIP.

LOOK ONE: Carolina Herrera Honorary Luncheon on Sept. 3

Abigail Spencer: I'm all about a lip right now. So every look is inspired by a strong lip. … Loving the Rouge Dior classic blue red, Rouge Favori # 752.

Sunnie Brook Jones: Today we were inspired by Herrera herself. She is elegant and chic. … And it was a fete for the grand dame herself. So keeping it simple and fitted. And ladylike and lunch-y.

Sunnie's Beauty Tip: To keep your lips to perfection, gently kiss a tissue to set the lipstick. Take a small powder makeup brush and powder along the outside edges to keep your red lips in place.

Hair How-To: Using a 1-inch iron and flat iron and Oribe Dry Texture Hairspray and Bumble and Bumble Thickening Cream Contour, wrap sections around iron, leaving ends out. Brush hair out once cool. Use flat iron to flatten out waves in various sections and slightly bend the ends. Finish with Oribe Show Beauty Hairspray. Polish ends and control frizz with Bumble and Bumble Thickening Cream.

LOOK TWO: Creatures of the Wind SS15 RTW Show on Sept. 4

Spencer: There is something super easy about the Creatures of the Wind boys Chris and Shane and their brand. But again, I’m on the lip train, so I went back to the archives of their previous shows and found a bright candy-red lip was a way to signature on their signature. Sunnie found the Diorific Lipstick in Dolce Vita was the perfect color for the look.”

Jones: Sunnie had a vision of me in a deep side part a la Jean Shrimpton. There is no way I would have done this without her urging (OK, demanding). I trust Sunnie, though (I mean, have you seen her???) and I said go for it. One of the many perks of having a beauty guru as your BFF — they get you to do things you would never do … and it actually looks stellar. I loved the fresh take on the retro look.

Spencer: It was so fun to get to go to the show together today. Sunnie even painted my nails with Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in Trafalgar on the way there! It’s the only nail polish I can use, because it has a wide brush. I am inept at nail polish, and the Dior Nail Lacquers somehow un-inepts me. We made it (lipstick and polish in place). I loved my COTW version of the classic "Audrey Hepburn,” and it has pockets to boot! The new collection is rad and it was a rad way to translate a look that had something old and something new. And something that was just … easy.

Jones: I wanted to create luminous skin with contour, so I used Diorskin Nude Tan Matte in Amber #002 and Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush in Petal #001 . To finish, a signature red lip — Diorific in Dolce Vita — with a red lip liner. For the hair, cashmere texture with a classic silhouette.

Sunnie's Beauty Tip: Use a light brown eyeshadow with an angled brush to create a guide for your liner. It's easy to remove if you make a mistake. Once you're happy with the placement, layer on your liquid liner.

Hair How-To: Use a Paul Mitchell Neuro Smooth iron, Bumble and Bumble Brillantine , Paul Mitchell Hold Me Tight, a wide-tooth comb and bobby pins. Create a deep side part with a curve using the end of the brow as a guide. Brush hair across forehead with a wide-tooth comb to allow for the natural next-day texture to play. Secure with bobby pins behind ears, leaving a few loose feather bits out. Take a smoothing iron and in a rocking back-and-forth motion, create flat waves, pulling ends straight. Polish ends with BB Brilliantine and finish look with hairspray.

LOOK THREE:  Monique Lhuillier SS15 RTW Show on Sept. 4

Spencer: Day Three. As any good fashion girls do, we were running behind. Chatting. Talking about the NYFW magic and even the mystical mugginess in the air. When we looked at the clock, we had one hour until departure time! We leapt into a fashion frenzy. We had a shower, hair, makeup, and change of polish fingers AND toes. One hour on the clock. It was cray.

Luckily, Sunnie and I have been beauty buddies for a long time now. We knew our concept so we could divide and conquer. We were inspired by the deep Bordeaux Dior Pied-de-Poule lip and nail polish to match (a la naughty ballerina herself Cara Delevingne's GQ Awards lollipop look) and side part with a classic textured wave. I have naturally curly hair, so we were going with the weather. Mixing with the naughty ballerina Monique Lhuillier Resort 2015 dress and an evening show, we we wanted to glam it up a notch. But still keep the skin fresh and lightly contoured, let the eye be subtle and the lip be the star.

On your mark. Get set. Dior!

Jones: For the Monique show, we were going for crimson lip with contoured cheeks and soft bedroom eyes — which consisted of DiorSkin Star Concealer in Beige, Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow in Cuir Cannage #796 and Diorshow Art Pen in Catwalk Black.

Sunnie's Beauty Tip:For a flawless dark lip application, use a clean mascara wand or toothbrush with a bit of lip balm and sugar to exfoliate any dry skin from your lips.

Hair How-To: For soft, sculpted, sultry waves, use a Paul Mitchell Neuro Nnclipped Styling Rod , Paul Mitchell Neuro Smoothing iron, no-crease silver bow clips, Mason Pearson brush, Oribe Super Fine spray, and Bumble and Bumble Thickening Contour Creme. Create a side part on dry hair, using the corner of the eye as a guide. Section hair from ear to ear and clip back section out of the way. Taking one-inch section, wrap hair around the iron. Clip to set and let cool. Continue working around head until you are finished. Spray with Super Fine hairspray. Remove one cool and apply Bb thickening contour cream to smooth flyaways and sculpt waves. Brush out wave and clip in place with no-crease clips. Give one last spray and then remove clips.
