Obama's Sister to Present History Award on German TV
Auma Obama is the patron of the 2011 competition.
COLOGNE, Germany - Auma Obama, the half-sister of U.S. president Barack Obama, has been named the patron of the 2011 History Award, an annual competition hosted by Germany's version of the History Channel.
Obama will be the competition's official patron. This year, remembering the 50th anniversary of the building of the Berlin Wall, the History Channel is asking German schoolchildren to submit videos on the theme of "crossing borders." Obama will co-host the History Award ceremony in Munich May 11.
Fluent in German, Auma Obama is a minor TV celebrity here and sometime guest on political and culture talkshows. This year she published, in German, her autobiography: Das Leben kommt immer dazwischen (LIfe always comes in between).
