The Occupy citizen protests have been garnering lots of attention in the United States, but it seems that it has broken through internationally to one of our country’s biggest detractors.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, spoke about the Occupy Wall Street protests in an address on Wednesday.

He says that the movement represents a crisis in the United States that could take down American capitalism, because its "corrupt foundation has been exposed to the American people."

The newspaper points out that the comments were made after President Barack Obama announced on Tuesday that he will be stepping up plans for a global campaign to isolate the Islamic republic.

The Occupy Wall Street protests began just under a month ago and are based at New York City’s Zuccotti Park. The ongoing demonstrations aim to bring attention to America’s social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns. It has since spread to more than 70 other American cities.

The protests have garnered support from several celebrities, including Kanye West, Michael Moore, and Susan Sarandon.
