Kyell Thomas has been promoted to replace him as head of Octagon’s Entertainment Talent Management division

John Ferriter is leaving Octagon Entertainment to launch a management/production company called The Alternative, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Ferriter’s clients include Piers Morgan, Nancy O’Dell and Drew Pinsky, and many are expected to move with him to the new shingle, which will continue to work with Octagon on projects already in development.

“There are so many good people to thank within [Octagon],” said Ferriter, whose five-year contract with the management and marketing firm has come to an end.

The former WMA rep left amid that agency’s merger with Endeavor and joined Octagon in 2010 to expand the sports-focused company’s entertainment business.

“I look forward to continuing those relationships as I set out on my new venture. I truly am excited about the future and what it brings for all of us and look forward to continuing to do good business with the good Octagon folks in the future,” Ferriter stated.

Kyell Thomas, who also joined Octagon from William Morris in 2010, will step up to replace Ferriter as head of the Entertainment Talent Management division. “I am looking forward to building upon what we have been able to achieve thus far,” Thomas said in a statement. “John has been a huge influence to me, and the opportunity to work alongside him is one for which I will always be grateful.”

Said Octagon founder and president Phil de Picciotto in a statement: “We are similarly grateful to John for his contributions and wish him every success for his future … We have every confidence in Kyell to lead our next steps in the entertainment talent management area.”
