Open Road and Universal Home Entertainment Strike Deal
"Killer Elite" to be first film to hit Blu-ray, DVD under new deal.
Open Road Films, the new distributor founded earlier this year by exhibitors AMC and Regal, has stuck a multi-year deal with Universal Studios Home Entertainment, which will handle marketing, sales and distribution of Open Road’s titles on Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms.
Open Road will launch its first film, Killer Elite, starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro, in theaters nationwide on Sept. 23 and it will also become the first title available on Blu-Ray and DVD under the new deal.
“Universal promises to be a terrific home entertainment distributor as we grow Open Road Films,” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg, who announced the agreement along with USHE president Craig Kornblau.
“We are thrilled with this new relationship and look forward to working with Craig, USHE marketing head Hilary Hoffman and their team to leverage their depth of expertise in the ever-changing home entertainment space,” he added.
