Opening Ceremony Enlists All of Your Favorite Comedians for NYFW Presentation

When it comes to collaborating with artists or musicians for fashion shows, designers are all about adding that extra element of depth to their presentations.

Comedy in fashion, however, is a bit more uncharted. But that didn't stop Opening Ceremony's Carol Lim and Humberto Leon from recruiting some of the industry's hottest comedians to play a part in their fall 2016 presentation, called "Pageant of the People," which takes place on Sept. 11.

The designers, who are showing their first in-season collection this September, are presenting a show hosted by none other than Portlandia's Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. But the fun doesn't stop there. Listed among the show's "special guests" are Parks and Rec alums Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones, SNL's Aidy Bryant, Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat, Orange Is the New Black's Diane Guerrero and Natasha Lyonne, Baby Cobra's Ali Wong, former Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams, Rosario Dawson and Rowan Blanchard. Plus Sarah McBride, best known for being the first transgender person to address a major party's convention at this past July's DNC, also will make an appearance.

Oh, and in case that wasn't enough, Whoopi Goldberg will be there, too. Whoopi Goldberg, people.

Opening Ceremony could neither confirm nor deny that its presentation would include, in addition to the clothes, some kind of comedy variety show or theatrical performance — but we wouldn't put it past the brand. Back in 2014, the designers staged a play — co-written by Hollywood bigwigs Jonah Hill and Spike Jonze — starring Elle Fanning, Bobby Cannavale and Jones.

Opening Ceremony's theatrical strategy appears to be paying off, too. Leon and Lim, who are also co-creative directors of Kenzo, struck viral gold with their latest Jonze-directed short film for Kenzo's latest fragrance; the video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times since its release last week.
