Orange, Fidelite team for VOD service

CANNES -- Gallic telecommunications giant Orange has declared its loyalty to French production company Fidelite Films with a new exclusive multi-year agreement, the companies said Monday.

Orange will release all of Fidelite's upcoming titles on its brand new six-channel TV and film VOD platform the "Orange Cinema Series."

The service, set to launch in France during the fourth quarter of 2008, will be available to all Orange TV, Internet and mobile users. The Orange cinema series will allow subscribers to download and transfer programs to their mobile phones and portable PCs in addition to on-demand viewing.

Orange will offer new films, TV series and catalog titles through exclusive content deals with Warner Bros. International Television, HBO and a selection of titles from Gaumont's catalog.

The Orange Cinema Series will be offered as an option on Orange TV available on broadband Internet or via satellite through Orange subsidiary Globecast and Eutelsat in addition to PC and mobile viewing.

Orange subscribers will be able to view Fidelite-produced feature films such as "De l'Autre Cote du Lit" (On the Other Side of the Bed) starring Sophie Marceau and the director behind boxoffice sensation "Welcome to the Land of the Shtis," Dany Boon.

"The launch of this service underscores Orange's keen interest in drawing on the creativity of French productions and in contributing to the funding of French cinema," Orange said in a statement.

Other notable Fidelite titles include Gilles Bourdos' "Afterwards" with Evangeline Lily, John Malkovich and Romain Duris' children's book adaptation "Le Petit Nicolas" starring Cesar award-winners Valerie Lemercier and Kad Merad and "Pour Elle" (For Her) starring Vincent Lindon and Diane Kruger.
