'Osbournes' gets plum debut after 'Idol'

Fox's variety-comedy show set to premiere March 31

"American Idol" fans, get ready for makeout sessions with grandma.

Fox has set a premiere date for its Osbourne family show, giving the project a lead-in from "Idol."

"Osbournes: Reloaded" will debut Tuesday, March 31. The show will take the spot of "Fringe" for a one-time airing, then run as a series of one-hour specials later in the season.

The move suggests the network may want to gauge reaction to the program before committing a regular spot, or that it simply that Fox wants the show to benefit one time from heavy "Idol" sampling.

"Osbournes" was original billed as a variety show, though Fox considers it more of an unscripted comedy. The show will feature audience interaction such as betting somebody to kiss a stranger and off-stage segments like Osbourne family members working a fast food drive-thru.
