Oscar-Nominated Actor Demian Bichir to Make Directorial Debut at Mexico's Morelia Fest
'Un Cuento de Circo & a Love Song,' which features Bichir, Eva Longoria and Diane Kruger, will have its world premiere at the October event.
Actor-turned-director Demian Bichir's romantic drama Un Cuento de Circo & a Love Song (A Circus Tale & a Love Song) will have its first-ever screening in late October at the Morelia International Film Festival.
Previously titled Refugio, Un Cuento de Circo centers on a Mexican circus performer (Bichir) whose search for lost love takes him on a journey from Mexico to New Orleans.
Bichir shares acting credits with his The Bridge co-star Diane Kruger, as well as Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and Jason Patric (The Lost Boys).
The Mexican actor landed an Oscar nomination for his performance in the Los Angeles-set immigration drama A Better Life. Bichir also appeared in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight and earlier this year joined Ridley Scott's sci-fi adventure Alien: Covenant.
The Itaca Films production Un Cuento de Circo will screen out of competition at the 14th edition of the Morelia fest, which is set to run Oct. 21-30.
The festival's official selection this year includes the Latin American premiere of Cannes darling La Region Salvaje (The Untamed) from Amat Escalante; Todo lo Demas, the latest pic from Sundance winner Natalia Almada; and Tenemos la Carne (We Are the Flesh), which received an endorsement from Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Inarritu (The Revenant).
Over the past three years, Morelia has opened with films by Mexico's top crossover directors: last year with Guillermo del Toro's horror flick Crimson Peak, and in the previous two editions with Inarritu's Oscar winner Birdman and Alfonso Cuaron's space thriller Gravity.
