Oscar-nominated scribe to pen 'Columbus' pic
Jose Rivera may work on Angel Entertainment's adaptation
Oscar-nominated scribe Jose Rivera ("The Motorcycle Diaries," "On The Road") is in talks to pen the movie adaptation of Canadian author Thomas Trofimuk's novel "Waiting for Columbus."
Canadian indie producer Angel Entertainment optioned the film rights to the novel set in a modern-day Spanish insane asylum where a patient believing himself to be Christopher Columbus falls in love with a psychiatric nurse eager to rescue her lost navigator.
The Canadian producer is also talking to Spain's KanZaman Productions (Kingdom of Heaven) as a possible co-producer.
"I'm gratified that Oscar-nominated Jose Rivera was as attracted to it as much as we were," Angel Entertainment's Bob Crowe said.

"And to go into production with a company like KanZaman will ensure that this international coproduction attracts the very best of elements," he added.
