Oscar Winners Lupita Nyong'o, Jared Leto Reveal Their Post-Awards Season Plans (Video)
No deodorant? No problem! Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett also tell THR how they intend to get some much-needed rest and relaxation after an exhausting few months.
The four actors who went home with Oscars on Sunday night have big post-awards season plans, and they don't necessarily involve new movie projects -- or deodorant.
"I don't think I'm going to brush my hair or wear clean clothes, put deodorant on. I think I'm going to go the full schlob," she said Saturday at The Hollywood Reporter's Piaget Lounge at the Independent Spirit Awards, where she also won best actress.
Blanchett has wrapped two Terrence Malick films as well as The Hobbit: There and Back Again and Disney's live-action Cinderella. After the Oscars, she will shoot the lesbian drama Carol with Rooney Mara.
Matthew McConaughey, who also took home best actor trophies at both weekend awards shows for Dallas Buyers Club, has similarly relaxing plans immediately on the horizon: He said he was going to make a big family breakfast on Monday morning.
As for his career, he wants to continue taking risks like those that have caught the attention of critics and awards organizations.
"What effect will [Dallas Buyers Club's awards attention] have on my career? To keep doing more of the same as far as seeking the experience," the actor said. "Take the risk and try to find something that it doesn't appear that I can make an original take on it from the gate, but once I get into it, it usually comes up, and there's an ownership that comes with that that gives me a lot of freedom and courage."
Coming up, he has Christopher Nolan's Interstellar in theaters Nov. 7 and will play a man who travels to Japan's "Suicide Forest" in Gus Van Sant's Sea of Trees.
His co-star Jared Leto, who won best supporting actor honors at both the Oscars and the Spirits, doesn't have any movie projects lined up but is planning a tour with his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.
At the Independent Spirit Awards, Leto gave the most verbose speech of the afternoon – thanking 40-plus people as he accepted the supporting male honor. He also joked he was ready to do a "reverse McConaissance" – the term coined to describe McConaughey's rise from romantic comedy leading man to critically acclaimed dramatic actor.
After his speech, Leto revealed who should join him in his first foray into romantic comedies.
"Lupita [Nyong'o] would be great, because she made a serious film as well. I'm always down to work with Julia Roberts." Leto told THR. "Meryl Streep and I would make a great couple, I'd have to say. I don't mean to make the world abuzz with any more rumors about Meryl and I."
Meanwhile, 12 Years a Slave's Nyong'o -- who won best supporting actress at the Oscars and the Spirits -- said she's being patient and listening to her gut when it comes to making future career decisions.
"I'm exercising patience and looking for the next thing," said Nyong'o, who's currently appearing in Non-Stop opposite Liam Neeson. "It won't be 12 Years a Slave: Part 2, but I think just exercising patience and listening to my gut because that's what has gotten me surviving thus far."
