Oscilloscope lands 'Burma VJ' distrib'n rights

Docu set for spring release in theaters

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Anders Østergaard's documentary "Burma VJ," which looks at the 2007 uprising in Myanmar through the cameras of the independent journalist group Democratic Voice of Burma.

Oscilloscope plans a theatrical release this spring, followed by a DVD release in 2010.

The film, which won the World Cinema Documentary Film Editing Award at the Sundance Film Festival, will open at Film Forum in New York on May 20 and also will air on HBO, which holds the broadcast rights.

The deal for the Magic Hours film production was negotiated by Josh Braun of Submarine and Esther van Messel of First Hand Films on behalf of the filmmakers and Oscilloscope's David Fenkel of Oscillscope Laboratories.
