Outfest to Honor Producers Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato
The World of Wonder founders' credits include "Becoming Chaz," "Million Dollar Listing," "Tori & Dean" and "RuPaul's Drag Race."
Filmmakers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato will be honored with Outfest’s 15th annual Achievement Award when Los Angeles’s LGBT film festival kicks off July 7 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
Founders of the production company World of Wonder, Fenton and Bailey have had two films that have opened the film festival -- 2000’s documentary The Eyes of Tammy Faye and 2003’s narrative feature Party Monster.
The award is given “in recognition of a body of work that has made a significant contribution to LGBT film and media,” and Kirsten Schaffer, Outfest exec director said, “Few acts can balance mainstream popularity with cult status and maintain their independence, singular vision and relevance -- especially in the mood-shifting LGBT landscape.”
Through their company, the two have produced film, TV and web programming.
Their resume includes The Real Ellen Story, Monica in Black and White and Inside Deep Throat.
They have also produced such TV series as Million Dollar Listing, Tori & Dean and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
They premiered their latest documentary film, Becoming Chaz, at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and in May the film was broadcast on OWN as the first film in the Oprah Winfrey Documentary Club.
In addition to the awards presentation, the festival’s opening night will include a gala screening of Gun Hill Road.
