Infamous Owlwood Estate Listed for $150 Million
The Holmby Hills Estate, which is touted as the most desirable address in the area, has been home to Tony Curtis and Cher and Sonny Bono.
141 South Carolwood in Holmby Hills is easily one of Los Angeles’ most coveted addresses. Now known as Owlwood, it has had a storied history of celebrities, affairs and secret divorces. The estate has been owned by a who’s who of Hollywood, including Tony Curtis, Hotel Bel-Air founder Joseph Drown, 20th Century Fox co-founder Joseph Schneck (his affair with Marilyn Monroe supposedly began in the mansion) and Sonny Bono and Cher.

According to RealEstalker, Owlwood is now being quietly shopped around with a staggering asking price of $150 million.
Built during the Great Depression, the Italian Renaissance mansion has grown steadily over the years, absorbing two neighboring estates including Jayne Mansfield’s Pink Palace. Owlwood currently is 10 acres with 22 rooms, -- 9 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms -- a 1,500 square-foot living room with solid oak paneling and a marble-faced fireplace.
Arnall also owns Mandalay Ranch outside of Aspen, CO. The 650-acre ranch was purchased for $46 million less than two years after the couple bought Owlwood.
The history of the house was covered extensively in Michael Gross’ 2011 book Unreal Estate. Gross talks in detail about how Marilyn came to live in the guesthouse and Cher’s “unattractive” decorating, as well as the other famous residents of the house.
Christina Kaufmann, Curtis’ ex-wife, told The Hollywood Reporter last year, “To me, [the house] always felt temporary. People we’re always passing through it, like a very glamorous train station.”
