It's Official: Universal Takes 'Pacific Rim 2' off of the Release Calendar
'Pitch Perfect 3' will now open on the date formerly occupied by the 'Pacific Rim' sequel.
Universal is moving Pitch Perfect 3 from July 21, 2017 to Aug. 4, 2017, the date formerly occupied by Legendary's Pacific Rim 2.
The studio has officially taken Pacific Rim 2 off the release calendar. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the sequel was being delayed indefinitely. In Tuesday's announcement, the studio said Pacific Rim 2 will be redated at a later time, and that Legendary and Universal remain committed to making the project "the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves."
"To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim 2 so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film," the statement continued.
Pitch Perfect 3, starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, will be the follow-up to this summer's sequel, which grossed more than $280 million worldwide.
