An emotional Al Pacino found himself at a loss for words Thursday when he was honored with 35th AFI Life Achievement Award. Fortunately, the numerous industry luminaries who filled Hollywood & Highland's Kodak Theatre had plenty to say about the Oscar-winning actor. And while Jamie Foxx, Andy Garcia, Ed Harris, Samuel L. Jackson, Sean Penn, Winona Ryder, Leelee Sobieski and Jeffrey Wright offered lavish praise, others worked in a few good-natured jabs. Robin Williams poked fun at some of Pacino's trademark lines, including one from 1992's "Scent of a Woman": "Ooh-ahh. What are you, Foghorn fuckin' Leghorn? One of the most annoying catchphrases of all time, and yet you get an Oscar for it!" Kirk Douglas, who received the AFI honor in 1991, remembered meeting Pacino when the honoree was starring in the 1960s off-Broadway play "The Indian Wants the Bronx." "I said, 'You're going to be a star!'" Douglas recalled. "That was 45 years ago. What took you so long?"
