Pair can't refuse Critics Week spots
EmptyCritics Week will have a Spanish flair this year as the 48th annual edition welcomes filmmakers Juan Antonio Bayona and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as "godfathers" of the Festival de Cannes sidebar.
Bayona's first feature, "The Orphanage," played at the 2007 Critics Week and was a boxoffice hit in Spain, earning 14 Goya nominations. Before that, he worked as a video and commercials director.
Fresnadillo started off strong in 1997 when his short film "Esposados" won an Oscar. He went on to direct the feature "Intacto," which opened the 2002 Critics Week sidebar.
Fresnadillo's second feature, "28 Weeks Later," is the follow-up to Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later."
The full Critics Week lineup will be announced April 24. (partialdiff)
