Paladin and Accretion Films Nab Psychological Thriller 'After'
Paladin, in partnership with Accretion Films, has acquired the psychological thriller After and will release the film theatrically Aug. 8.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Pieter Gaspersz, who also produced the film with After's screenwriter Sabrina Gennarino.
It will be simultaneously launched on digital platforms and on DVD through Virgil Films, which acquired all North American digital and home entertainment rights.
Kathleen Quinlan stars in After alongside John Doman, Pablo Schreiber, Adam Scarimbolo, Diane Neal, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Bruno Gunn, Mandy Gonzalez and Gennarino.
Set in upstate New York in winter 2002, After revolves around the Valentinos, a middle-class clan facing financial hardship -- their family stone-cutting business is slowly failing -- and coping with the usual rivalries and resentments that affect all but their absent daughter, Samantha, who has recently escaped Rochester for a new life in Manhattan. At their center is matriarch Nora (Quinlan), whose cheerful exterior masks an emotional fragility of which the entire family is painfully aware and fiercely protective. But their delicate balance is threatened by a carefully concealed secret that, once revealed, will change their lives forever.
"After is an exciting debut that is thoroughly absorbing, beautifully acted and, in a number of ways, genuinely surprising," Paladin president Mark Urman said. "Pieter and Sabrina are a fresh, new filmmaking team, and I look forward to working with them."
Added Virgil Films president Joe Amodei: "I am proud to be involved with this film, as it showcases such dramatic writing, acting and directing. The entire cast is mesmerizing."
Paladin's upcoming slate includes Michael Maren's A Short History of Decay, which opens in New York on May 16, and Michael Walker's thriller The Maid’s Room, which will bow in the summer.
