Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling are starring in Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures' detective thriller

Palo Alto actor Jack Kilmer has joined Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures' detective thriller Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.

The Shane Black-helmed movie is set in 1970s Los Angeles. It follows a private eye (Gosling) and a hired leg-breaker (Crowe) who must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger and Beau Knapp also star.

Kilmer, who just signed with CAA, will play Chet, a young film projectionist who is a friend and confidante of Amelia (Margaret Qualley), the missing girl at the film's center. He proves vital to Healy (Crowe) and March's (Gosling) investigation. The film will be a reunion for Kilmer and Qualley, who both starred in Gia Coppola's Palo Alto.

Black wrote the script for Nice Guys, which is slated for release on June 17, 2016, with Anthony Bagarozzi. Joel Silver is producing under his Silver Pictures banner, with Ken Kao, Hal Sadoff and Michael Malone serving as executive producers. Andy Fischel is overseeing the project for Warner Bros.

Kilmer, the son of Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley, recently signed with CAA as his star continues to rise. He has both Len & Company, with Juno Temple, and Stanford Prison Experiment, with Billy Crudup and Ezra Miller, in the can. Along with CAA, Kilmer is repped by Principato Young and Hirsch Wallerstein.
