Pamela Anderson Urges Alberta to End Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon Race
“This reckless event -- in which horses are routinely killed -- must come to an end,” the Canadian-born actress wrote to a government official after a recent accident.
TORONTO -- Former Baywatch star and animal advocate Pamela Anderson has asked Alberta premier Alison Redford to stop the annual chuckwagon race at the Calgary Stampede.
“This reckless event -- in which horses are routinely killed -- must come to an end,” Anderson wrote to the Alberta political leader, the Canadian Press newswire service reported Monday.
“It’s clear there’s nothing that can make these races safe. The chuckwagon races must be eliminated once and for all,” she added after tragedy struck the annual Canadian rodeo when three chuckwagon horses died after a crash Thursday night.
A Redford spokeswoman told the Canadian newswire service that she had not yet read the letter.

Canadian animal rights group routinely protest the chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede, which has so far resisted repeated calls in past years to end the annual rodeo event.
