'If/Then', 'Bullets Over Broadway' Get New Life in Pantages Lineup
'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical', 'Cabaret', 'Annie' and 'Dirty Dancing' are also set for the Hollywood theater's 2015-16 season.
The two productions join the theater's 85th anniversary lineup that also includes the Los Angeles premiere of the Tony-winning Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and magic show The Illusionists — Witness the Impossible, as well as the returns of Annie, Dirty Dancing, 42nd Street and Cabaret.
Directed by Michael Greif, Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's If/Then is the original contemporary musical about a city planner who relocates to New York after her marriage ends and whose subsequent life plays out simultaneously along two distinct paths. The Broadway run currently stars Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp and James Snyder. After the production frequently grossed more than $1 million a week early in its run and earning the highest debut for a cast recording since 1996's Rent, it has meandered despite a box-office bump throughout the holiday period and will close March 22 when Menzel's year-long contract ends and she prepares for her world tour this summer.
Bullets Over Broadway was Woody Allen's buzzy musical adaptation of his 1994 film written with Dougals McGrath. While the Susan Stroman-directed production about an aspiring playwright in the Roaring Twenties had a few solid weeks in the run-up to the Tony Awards, when it was regularly grossing north of $900,000, its box office numbers slipped throughout the summer, and the short-lived production starring Zach Braff and Tony nominee Nick Cordero closed last August, after officially opening in April.
Season ticket packages will go on sale Monday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. PT.
