Pantelion Signs First Look With Mexican Star Eugenio Derbez
Derbez wrote, directed and starred in Mexican blockbuster 'Instructions Not Included'
Pantelion Films has inked a first-look deal with Mexican multihyphenate Eugenio Derbez, the writer, director and star of Pantelion's Latino blockbuster Instructions Not Included.
Derbez, through the 3Pas production shingle he runs with former Pantelion production executive Benjamin Odell, will focus on Spanish- and English-language films targeted at Latino and crossover audiences in the US.
Instructions Not Included, which Pantelion released, grossed more than $44 million in the U.S., making it the most successful domestic release ever for a Spanish-language film. The movie has grossed around $100 million worldwide.
"We are thrilled to take our longstanding relationship with Eugenio to the next level," said Pantelion Films CEO Paul Presburger. "He is a true auteur in every sense of the word, and he has an amazing ability to tap into the shared passions of Latino and American audiences."
Derbez is represented by CAA and attorney Howard Abramson.
Pantelion, a joint venture between Lionsgate and Mexican media corporation Grupo Televisa, is in Toronto with several projects, including Diego Luna's biopic Cesar Chavez, starring Michael Pena, John Malkovich, Rosario Dawson and America Ferrara.
