Paramount to Distribute Matthew Espinosa Movie in Multi-Picture Deal With Studio71
'Be Somebody' stars the Vine sensation.
Paramount is getting into business with online stars through a new deal with multi-channel network Studio71.
Through a multi-picture distribution deal with Studio71, Paramount will distribute Be Somebody starring Vine sensation Matthew Espinosa.
The film, which will be released day-and-date on June 10, is directed by Joshua Caldwell (Layover) and written by Lamar Damon (Bunheads) and tells the story of a teen pop star (Espinosa) who, desperate for a normal life, ditches his sold-out tour and takes refuge in a small town where he meets a rebellious street artist. Sarah Jeffery (Wayward Pines), Tava Smiley (General Hospital), Caitlin Keats (Kill Bill: Vol. 2), LaMonica Garrett (Sons of Anarchy) and Allison Paige (Days of Our Lives) also star.
"Studio71 is known for creating crossover opportunities for digital stars and we are excited to be working with them on Matthew Espinosa's feature film debut," Syrinthia Studer, senior vp marketing and acquisitions at Paramount Home Media Distribution, said in a statement.
Studio71 chief content officer Gary Binkow added, "Studio71 is excited to work with a major studio like Paramount, who recognize this talent and can help leverage the exposure to a much wider audience."
Paramount is the latest studio to see opportunity in films starring YouTube and Vine talent. Lionsgate is distributing Dirty Thirty starring Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Mamrie Hart, and Legendary last year acquired The Thinning with Logan Paul and Peyton List via its digital division.
Be Somebody is executive produced by Espinosa, Andrew Reyes, Carrie Morrow, Joshua Caldwell and Jeff Levin. It is produced by Binkow and Amee Dolleman. Angelique Hanus is a co-producer.
