Paramount taps Rockenwagner

Fills position vacated by Janet Hill in July

Brad Grey has a new spokesperson.

Paramount Pictures on Wednesday appointed Patricia Shin Rockenwagner, formerly a regional communications executive at Time Warner Cable, exec vp corporate communications, effective Monday.

She fills a position that has been vacant since the July departure of Janet Hill, who was brought in two years earlier to run Par communications after several years at MTV Networks. Since Hill's departure, Par has used New York-based PR agency exec Steve Rubenstein for corporate communications.

Rockenwagner, who will report to the Par chairman and CEO, will help Grey navigate the oft-awkward media relations that have nagged his time atop the studio. But her time as chief spokeswoman for controversy magnet Time Warner Cable-Southern California will have steeled her for the task.

"Patti comes to Paramount with a proven record of success in handling a range of strategic communications issues for a large media and entertainment organization," Grey said. "She possesses both an in-depth understanding of the media industry and the energy and skills to ensure that the Paramount brand is consistently projected effectively both internally and to key constituencies in the U.S. and to every territory where we do business. I know she will bring a strong voice and unique perspective to our team."

Rockenwagner -- whose husband Hans is a well-known Los Angeles restaurateur -- joined TWC in 2006 after a five-year stint with Comcast of Southern California, which Time Warner acquired in a systems swap. From 1994-97, she was chief of staff and campaign manager for then state Sen. Tom Hayden and was legislative director in the office of state Sen. Art Torres from 1992-94.

"Paramount is a legend in the industry, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the company's continued success," Rockenwagner said. "Paramount has a great story to tell, from the business side to the creative. And with a rich history that spans nearly 100 years and an even brighter future ahead, this is an exciting time to be at Paramount."
