Par's Aversano eyes new role

Scott Aversano, who was named president of MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies when the two units were combined in September 2006, is discussing a new role at the studio that would see him stepping down from that post.

Aversano had been reporting to Paramount CEO Brad Grey. But under the new executive structure that Paramount is in the process of assembling, John Lesher, who currently heads specialty division Paramount Vantage, and Brad Weston, Paramount's current president of production, are expected to take larger roles running the film operations that would include overseeing the MTV Films/Nick Movies unit.

While studio sources said Thursday that Grey would like to keep Aversano as part of the Paramount team, the betting is that Aversano will segue into a production deal on the lot.

In addition to Lesher and Weston, the emerging management team that Grey will charge with running the studio also includes current execs Rob Moore, president of worldwide marketing, distribution and operations, and Paramount COO Frederick Huntsberry.

Paramount declined comment.
