Parsons School of Design Announces the Winners of Kering's Design Competition
The forward-thinking students, Lucy Jones and Blair More, won a learning expedition to the brand’s Italian lab.
Parsons School of Design has been all over the news this week for its annual fashion benefit, where Marc Jacobs was given an achievement award by fellow alum Anna Wintour. But there’s more going on at the famous fashion school with the announcement of the two winners of Kering and Parsons’ fourth Empowering Imagination Fashion Design Competition.
The winners of the award, graduating designers Lucy Jones and Blair Moore, earned a trip to Italy to visit the Kering Materials Innovation Lab and the brand’s Italian offices. In addition, their designs will be showcased in Saks Fifth Avenue's display windows, and they will receive mentorship from Style.com. The pair were selected from twelve finalists by a panel of insiders that included Alexander Wang and W’s Giovanna Battaglia.

“Parsons’ students have once again exceeded our expectations during this year’s Empowering Imagination contest,” says Laurent Claquin, head of Kering Americas, one of the panel’s judges. “Lucy and Blair exhibit considerable talent, with detailed focus on creativity and exceptional craftsmanship. These qualities are very important at Kering, and we are happy to offer them a fantastic learning experience at [our] learning facilities in Italy.”
Jones is a Welsh student whose thesis addressed the issue of clothing for "seated individuals," such as those in wheelchairs who have a difficult time dressing. She also just won Womenswear Designer of the Year at Parsons for her innovative work. Meanwhile, Moore, an Australia native, created a sophisticated travel kit for travelers using innovative materials and elements like modular footwear.
