Participant Taps Christina Kounelias for New Marketing Post
She will be leaving her position as marketing chief for the Motion Picture Academy.
Christina Kounelias is leaving the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where she has been serving as marketing chief, to join Participant Media as executive vp, worldwide marketing and communications, a newly created position at the company.
Kounelias will report to CEO David Linde, who, along with chairman Jeff Skoll, announced her appointment on Thursday.
In her new post, Kounelias, who will be based out of Participant’s offices beginning March 28, will oversee all creative marketing efforts for film, media and promotions, corporate communications, events, audience engagement and research.
At the Academy, Kounelias oversaw all marketing, communications and digital media for the Oscars, the Academy Museum and the Academy’s year-round programming. During her tenure, the Academy grew its social media presence to more than 9.2 million followers.
Prior to joining the Academy in 2011, Kounelias held senior marketing and communications posts at Warner Bros., New Line, Fox Broadcasting and Miramax.
Participant had a stake in the recent Oscar winners Spotlight and Bridge of Spies.
