Participant taps King as exec vp
EmptyJonathan King has joined political filmmaking outfit Participant Prods. as executive vp in charge of production.
King left his post as executive vp production at NBC Universal specialty division Focus Features on Friday and will begin his new post Monday at Participant's Los Angeles office.
He will report to president Ricky Strauss. Participant CEO Jim Berk confirmed the hiring.
King joined Focus in April 2006, signing a three-year contract with the distributor at the time.
He came aboard after serving as president of production at Sony Pictures Entertainment-based Laurence Mark Prods., joining the company in 1998 and supervising such features as Bill Condon's "Dreamgirls" and Scott Frank's "The Lookout."
Before that, King was a Los Angeles-based production and acquisitions executive at Miramax Films. He started his career at MGM/UA in New York.
Participant was founded in January 2004 by chairman Jeff Skoll and is dedicated to producing and funding films with progressive environmental and political concerns.
