Pascal Laugier focuses on 'Details'

To write and direct supernatural thriller for Par Vantage

French filmmaker Pascal Laugier is assembling a Hollywood career with scary efficiency.

Laugier, who freaked out audiences this year at the Cannes and Toronto festivals with "Martyrs," his exercise in existential horror, will write and direct the supernatural thriller "Details" for Paramount Vantage.

Jason Blum and Steven Schneider of Blumhouse Prods. ("The Accidental Husband") and Ian Levy are attached as producers.

Two years ago, Vantage purchased Dan Kay's screenplay about a daughter who disappears after stirring up dark forces and the father obsessed with finding her. The original idea, which Laugier will script, is based on a short story by British fantasy writer China Mieville.

ICM signed Laugier after "Martyrs" polarized audiences in Toronto with its violence and psychological torture. The film quickly helped to score him the job of writing and directing a remake of Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" for Dimension Films.
