Fashion Photographer Patrick Demarchelier Is Getting a CLIO Award
Pret-a-Reporter will also present its first-ever award for excellence in commercial styling at this year's ceremony.
Famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier is getting recognized for his jaw-dropping editorial work (J. Law posing naked with a snake for Vanity Fair, anyone?) and fashion campaigns at this year's CLIO Image Awards — which celebrates the achievements in advertising across various categories including fashion, beauty, retail and accessories — on May 5 at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
The French photographer will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which celebrates an influential figure in the fashion, beauty, retail and accessories industry "whose career-long contributions have made a lasting impact on the industry," according to a release.

Among one of the most recognized photos shot by Demarchelier includes a series of portraits of Princess Diana with her sons, which later became the princess' official portraitist and established her as "the people's princess." The lensman has also worked with Madonna, Beyonce, Olivia Wilde, Kanye West, Michael Douglas and Gisele Bundchen, among many other famous faces.
"For three decades, Patrick Demarchelier has shaped the way the world sees fashion and beauty," said Nicole Purcell, CLIO president, in a statement. "Capturing essential qualities of his subjects with boundary-pushing photography, his work presents a timeless vision of the art and industry of fashion."
"The CLIO Awards were already considered very prestigious when I started photographing for British Vogue and Elle 30 years ago,” said Demarchelier, who has also shot campaigns for Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, as well as editorial work for Vogue, Vanity Fair and Harper's Bazaar. "To receive the CLIO Image Lifetime Achievement Award is a very big honor. I am very happy to receive it."
Following last year's ceremony of presenting Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin with the award for achievement in fashion photography, Pret-a-Reporter will return to give its first-ever award for excellence in commercial styling award. The prize will be presented by Pret-a-Reporter style director Erin Weinger.
The CLIO Awards are owned by THR and Billboard's parent company, Prometheus Global Media.
