Paul Greengrass To Deliver BAFTA Lecture
Berlin — BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass will deliver the David Lean lecture – prestigious film lecture – on March 18, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) said.
The event will take place at BAFTA’s headquarters in central London.
The David Lean lecture aims “to educate, inform and inspire practitioners and the public by providing insight into the experiences of some of the world’s best and most compelling filmmakers” according to BAFTA.
Greengrass will follow in the footsteps of Robert Altman, John Boorman, Oliver Stone, David Lynch and Pedro Almodovar for the event.
Greengrass’s filmmaking resume boasts United 93, Green Zone, The Bourne Ultimatum and most recently the Tom Hanks’ starred Captain Phillips.
BAFTA Film committee chair Nik Powell said: “Paul Greengrass is one of the U.K.’s greatest contemporary directors. His fearless approach to filmmaking has led to him creating some truly memorable features for both film and television.”
The David Lean lecture is named after the British director, one of the founders of the British Film Academy (as it was then known) in 1947.
