Paul Johnson exiting Reed MIDEM

Exec oversaw start of Digital Emmys, Content 360

LONDON -- Paul Johnson, television division director at MIPTV and MIPCOM organizer Reed MIDEM, is leaving the company in mid-March for an undisclosed new job, the Paris-base organization said Tuesday.

Johnson, who joined Reed MIDEM in 2003 and was previously head of European sales at The Hollywood Reporter, has helped broaden and grow the range of attendees at the Cannes-based TV markets, bringing in players from the worlds of digital content, mobile entertainment, advertising and licensing as well as adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to the Riviera-side market.

A well-connected executive, Johnson oversaw the launch of the Digital Emmy Awards and the MIPTV Content 360 initiative as well as securing such executives as Elisabeth Murdoch, Paula Wagner, Rich Ross, Philippe Daumann and Gerhard Zeiler to speak at the markets. He also expanded attendance at MIPDOC and MIP Jr.

"Paul leaves our television division in excellent condition," Reed MIDEM chief executive Paul Zilk said. "Over the past six years, his enthusiasm and knowledge of the entertainment industry have helped broaden the client base at our television events ... and attendance at the markets has grown steadily. We wish Paul the very best in his new position."

Laurine Garaude, Reed MIDEM's director of customer relationship marketing and product development and former director of interactive content market MILIA, will head the television division in an interim capacity.
