Paul Johnson moving to Endemol

Exec stepped down from Reed MIDEM

LONDON -- Reed MIDEM director of television Paul Johnson is quitting the organization behind MIPTV and MIPCOM to become Endemol's global head of marketing and brand partnerships.

Reporting to Endemol chief executive Ynon Kreiz, Johnson -- who was European sales director for The Hollywood Reporter before joining Reed MIDEM six years ago -- will take his post in March.

He will be charged with establishing and managing relationships with leading global brands and overseeing Endemol's marketing activities, including branding, communications, event management, brand affiliation and branded content. The job will see him work on behalf of such shows as "Deal or No Deal," "Wipeout" and "Big Brother."

Johnson will move to London and work alongside COO Marco Bassetti and chief commercial officer Tom Toumazis, who joined Endemol from Disney in August.

Since taking the helm at private equity-backed Endemol last year, Kreiz has significantly built up the company's management team, bringing in such highly regarded executives as Toumazis and former 19 Management and FremantleMedia exec Martha Brass (as deputy COO). Kreiz also intends to ramp up Endemol's scripted-entertainment portfolio and launch a sports programming division.

Describing Johnson as a "first class" executive, Kreiz said brand partnerships will play a key role in Endemol's future.

"As our sector enters what is set to be an exceptionally challenging time, globally communicating brand messages and building successful brand partnerships will play an increasingly important role in achieving growth," he said. "We couldn't ask for a stronger candidate for this position, and I very much look forward to having Paul on board."
