Paul Oakenfold Leaves WME for APA (Exclusive)

The superstar DJ and producer, who will next be heard in "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas," signs with a new agency.

Superstar DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold is leaving William Morris Endeavor for APA, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

"I wish my friends at William Morris Endeavor all the best," says Oakenfold, in a statement being issued Wednesday. “APA is another evolution in my career; they have unique vision and share my goals for the future. I look forward to expanding our horizons together."

Oakenfold began spinning in London and Liverpool in the late '70s and eventually made his way to New York City, where he expanded his skills to other areas of the music business, including A&R (he signed DJ Jazzy Jeff, Fresh Prince and Salt-n-Pepa to Champion Records in the '80s and his Perfecto record label played an integral role in the birth of trance music) and film scoring (among his movie credits: The Bourne Identity, Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2, Swordfish, Collateral and the upcoming A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas). He has held residencies in Ibiza and Las Vegas and received two Grammy nominations, most recently in 2009 for his production work with Madonna.

As an artist, Oakenfold has opened for U2 and Madonna as well as headlined his own tours, including a two-night stand at L.A.’s famed Hollywood Bowl. In 2003, Oakenfold performed at the Great Wall of China. 

APA’s entry to electronic music is relatively recent and Oakenfold’s departure from WME, which counts several dozen dance acts as clients, including Deadmau5, the Crystal Method and Afrojack, is seen as somewhat of a coup for the fledgling department. Other music acts on APA's roster include Jack's Mannequin, Rise Against, Sublime With Rome, Judas Priest and Flogging Molly.

Oakenfold is scheduled to perform at L.A.'s "Avaland" on Oct. 22, celebrating the popular club night's seventh anniversary at Hollywood venue Avalon.
