PBS leads News & Docu Emmy noms

PBS and "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" lead the nominations for the 29th annual News & Documentary Emmys, announced Tuesday.

PBS received 38 noms, the most for any network and all but one in the documentary categories. The next closest rivals were ABC and CBSwith 17 noms each. NBC earned 14 noms, including 10 for "NBC Nightly News," the most-nominated program.

Networks receiving double-digit noms were National Geographic (12) and HBO/Cinemax (10). Among those receiving multiple noms were CBS' "60 Minutes" (nine), ABC's "20/20" (eight), "ABC World News With Charles Gibson" (eight), PBS' "POV" (six), PBS' "America at a Crossroads" (five), PBS' "Nature" (five), CBS' "Sunday Morning" (five) and "HBO Documentary Films" (five).

The awards will be handed out Sept. 22 at the Time Warner Center in New York. (partialdiff)
