Emmys: 'Stranger Things' Stars, Jimmy Kimmel Hand Out Homemade PB&J Sandwiches to Audience

Jimmy Kimmel (and his mom) came to the rescue of hungry audience members at the 2016 Emmy Awards.

The host's mother whipped up 7,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which Kimmel enlisted the kids from Netflix's breakout series Stranger Things to hand out to hungry actors, actresses, writers, directors and producers.

"I know these shows are long, and I know a lot of you haven't eaten since Labor Day. I have a little surprise for everyone," Kimmel said before showing his mother on a video screen standing behind stacks of sandwiches she'd made."

After the audience cheered when Kimmel asked if anyone was hungry, he and the kids passed out brown paper bags containing sandwiches and — as some of the audience members later discovered — notes.

Unfortunately if anyone had a peanut allergy they had to eat the sandwich at their own risk, Kimmel joked.

"If you're allergic to peanuts then I guess this is goodbye because we can only afford one EpiPen," the host quipped, referencing the sky-high price of the medication.

He also asked people to raise their hands if they had a gluten allergy, but he didn't offer an alternative snack.

"I just want America to see which of their favorite celebrities are the most annoying," Kimmel said.

Later, Kimmel passed out juice boxes to go along with the sandwiches, giving a few to "Juice" fan David Schwimmer.

Sofia Vergara and Kevin Spacey were shown eating the sandwiches backstage as Kimmel also handed lunches out to Anthony Anderson, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer and others.

Sandwiches weren't the only thing Kimmel's mother put in the brown paper bags — she included notes as well.

Kimmel asked Cuba Gooding Jr. to read the note in his bag. "Dear Cuba, Loved you in Snow Dogs," it said. Gooding laughed as Kimmel said his mom didn't get out to the movies much.

Amy Schumer was caught eating her note. She proudly read her note, which called her the "funniest woman on television" and said Kimmel's mother wished she were hosting the Emmys this year. It continued, "Bring back Parks and Rec."

Schumer's face fell as Kimmel brought the note over to Amy Poehler.

The rest of the notes all had the same message, which various audience members shared on social media. "Have fun tonight! Win or lose, your mom will always love you. Don't get drunk. XOXOXO, Joan (Jimmy's mom)"
