The People V. O.J. Simpson star Sarah Paulson has joined the cast of Danny Strong’s Rebel in the Rye.

Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, Brian d’Arcy James, Victor Garber and Hope Davis star in the J.D. Salinger biopic, which just began shooting in New York City.

Rebel in the Rye is the story of the life and mind of the legendary and secretive author. It follows Salinger through his rebellious youth, the bloody front lines of World War II, enduring great love and terrible loss, a life of rejection and the PTSD-fueled writer’s block that led to the birth of his iconic book, The Catcher in the Rye.

Paulson will play Dorothy Olding, the agent who believed in young Salinger from his earliest short stories and was fiercely loyal to him throughout his career.

Strong also adapted the screenplay from Kenneth Slawenski’s biography J.D. Salinger: A Life.

Black Label Media is financing the film, with the company's Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill producing alongside Bruce Cohen, Jason Shuman and Strong.

CAA is representing the North American rights, with Bloom handling international at the upcoming Cannes film market.

Paulson has earned rave reviews for her portrayal of Marcia Clark in The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Her recent credits include American Horror Story and such films as Todd Haynes’ Carol and Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. Paulson is repped by UTA.
