Peter Chan's We Pictures Announces 'The Guillotines' Rollout in 3D in December in China

HONG KONG – The Guillotines, the Peter Chan-produced and Andrew Lau directed period actioner, will be released in 3D in China in December, Chan’s We Pictures announced.

The assassin-themed film, starring Huang Xiaoming (The Message), Li Yuchun (Bodyguards and Assassins), and Shawn Yue (Love in the Buff), is shot using the Arri Alexa digital movie camera and converted from 2D by Canada-based effect company Vision Globale. Director Lau (Infernal Affairs) showed the 3D trailer in an event in Beijing this week, on the China Film Giant Screen, a 12m high and 20m wide format which is comparable to Imax in terms of technology and quality.

We Pictures also announced its continual collaboration with Huang as one of the three stars of Peter Chan’s next directorial effort American Dreams in China, alongside Chinese actors Deng Chao (Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame), and Tong Dawei (The Flowers of War, Red Cliff). The leading men will play founders of a multi-million dollar tutorial enterprise in a rags-to-riches story that spanned three decades, beginning from China’s Economic Reform. Filming has commenced in Beijing and Tianjin since July and will move to New York in September.

The company has cast Bai Baihe, the breakout star of last year’s 180 million yuan-grossing surprise hit Love is Not Blind, as the lead of The Truth of Beauty. The new film, produced by Peter Chan and directed by Aubrey Lam, is a romantic comedy that revolves around cosmetic surgery.  The pair has been long term collaborators, with Chan producing Lam’s directorial debut 12 Nights in 2000, while Lam was the writer of the Chan-directed Perhaps Love, The Warlords, and Wu Xia, and The Guillotines, which Chan produced.
