The exec will remain chairman and CEO of Fox Networks Group.
Fox Networks Group CEO Peter Rice will take on the additional role of president of 21st Century Fox, a newly created position, the company announced Wednesday.
Rice will work with 21st Century Fox leadership on "key strategic initiatives."
"Peter has driven exceptional growth at Fox Networks Group during a time of real transformational change in the business, expanding our audiences and innovating new distribution models, from which the company, our shareholders and our customers have benefited greatly," 21st Century Fox executive chairman Lachlan Murdoch and CEO James Murdoch said in a prepared statement. "Peter’s impact on the business is immense and we are incredibly fortunate to have him with us in this expanded role during this exciting next chapter of the company.”
Rice is known to be close to the Murdoch family, and his résumé includes high-level positions in film production — as president of Fox Searchlight Pictures — as well as television.
In his role as chairman and CEO of Fox Networks Group, Rice oversees Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Sports, FX Networks, National Geographic, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Networks Group Latin America, Europe and Asia. He has held this role since 2012.
