The 'Fargo' and '22 Jump Street' actor will begin shooting the one-hour drama series this summer.

Peter Stormare, the Swedish actor best known for his roles in Fargo and 22 Jump Street, has signed on to star in Black Widows, a new one-hour Nordic crime series.

TV3 and Viaplay, Scandinavian production companies controlled by pan-Nordic media group MTG, will produce the first eight-episode season of Black Widows, an adaptation of the hit Finnish show of the same name. The Finnish version was the most successful drama series ever in the country. CBS has put a U.S. adaptation of the Finnish show into development.

The Swedish version of Black Widows will premiere across Sweden, Norway and Denmark in 2016.

The original Black Widows focuses on three women who kill their abusive spouses and try to get away with it, despite being pursued by the police and being under suspicion from everyone in their close-knit community. Three yet-to-be named Scandinavian actresses will co-star alongside Stormare.

Stormare's TV credits include Blacklist, Arrow and Prison Break. He is repped by ICM Partners, Silver Lining Entertainment and Bloom Hergott.

“Cross-border drama have increased in popularity quite a lot in recent years, and with Black Widows we have a winning drama concept for multiple platforms in multiple countries,” said Morten Morgensen, chief content officer of MTG free-TV Scandinavia.
