NEW YORK – Here! Films made one of its heftiest acquisitions to date, nabbing all North American rights to writer/director Ash Christian's coming-of-age comedy "Fat Girls."

Here! sister company, Regent Releasing, will handle theatrical distribution of the film this fall. The story follows a gay teen (played by the film's then-20-year-old director) from a small Texas town on his adventures with an overweight female friend (Ashley Fink) and her Cuban love interest (Robin De Jesus). "Tarnation" director Jonathan Caouette makes his feature acting debut as a high school teacher who moonlights as a Judy Garland impersonator.

The film premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, followed by more than a dozen film festival appearances around the country. It was produced by Christian, Kim Fishman and Kelli Lerner.

Here! Films executive vp acquisitions and distribution Mark Reinhart negotiated the deal on behalf of his company with the film's sales agent, Ronna Wallace.
