Piers Morgan: Jeremy Clarkson's New Amazon Motoring Show Won't Be "Big" in U.K.

"I would imagine within two years they’ll have a very successful online show, just not many people will be watching it in this country."

Never one to shy away from a potential social media scrap with his old adversary Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan has put foward his two cents about the former Top Gear host's new motoring show with Amazon.

Unsurprisingly, the former CNN host wasn't exactly full of praise for the upcoming, as-yet-unnamed series, which is said to be one of Amazon's biggest investments in original programming.

“I think they will do well globally with the online show, but what they won’t do is have a big audience in [the U.K.]," Morgan told Radio Times magazine.

“They’ll very quickly realize – as I did after leaving Britain’s Got Talent – that when you’re on these huge shows, you can’t walk around for being mobbed by people but then the oxygen of that fame very quickly diminishes. I would imagine within two years they’ll have a very successful online show, just not many people will be watching it in this country."

Morgan added that Clarkson's star in the U.K. – along with those of his co-hosts, Richard Hammond and James May – would fade.

“They’ll be able to walk around the streets and, I imagine to Clarkson’s horror, he won’t be being mobbed,” he said.

Just to stick the knife in, perhaps, Morgan offered his enthusiasm for Chris Evans, the new Top Gear host who took over from Clarkson after he was fired by the BBC for punching a producer earlier this year.

“I think Chris will be good on Top Gear. It’ll be very interesting. He’s a massive car enthusiast, he’s a great broadcaster, I’m interested to see what he does,” Morgan said.
