Ronin Films MD to work on inaugural fund judgingSYDNEY -- Australian distribution executive and managing director of Ronin Films, Andrew Pike, will join the judging panel for the inaugural Motion Picture Association-Asia Pacific Screen Awards Academy Film Fund, MPA president and managing director Asia Pacific Mike Ellis announced Monday.
Entries for the new $100,000 film fund, which will provide development funding for four features each year from the Asia Pacific region, opened July 31 and the panel has already received projects from renowned filmmakers in Iran, Japan, the Russian Federation, China, Australia, Israel, New Zealand and India, according to Ellis.
“The strong response we have received this early in the submission process confirms that we have created something of value to the region,” he said. I am delighted that Andrew Pike has joined our inaugural assessment panel. His extensive experience as a distributor, exhibitor and a filmmaker in his own right along with his vast knowledge of Asian cinema will bring a wealth of experience to the task of assessing the projects submitted for the fund,” he added.
Filmmakers applying for the grants under the fund have to be members of the APSA Academy, which is made up of past APSA nominees, winners, Jury and Nominations Council members. The inaugural recipients of the Film Fund will be announced at the 4th Asia Pacific Screen Awards ceremony, on Queensland’s Gold Coast on December 2.
