'Pirates' hauls in $43 million Friday

The wind was in the sales of Buena Vista's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" Friday, as the seafaring tale collected $43 million, according to estimates from boxofficemojo.com.
The pirate tale's Friday haul from 4,362 theaters easily gave it the top spot for the day. With $14 million from Thursday's screenings, the domestic cume for "At World's End" reached $57 million.
Earlier Friday, Disney reported that the two-day haul for the third "Pirates" tale in all worldwide territories, not including Friday's receipts, stood at $58 million.
Paramount's "Shrek the Third" slipped to second place with an estimated $14.4 million. The DreamWorks Animation film has made $164.7 million going into its second week of release.
Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man 3" was poised to cross the $300 million mark over the Memorial Day weekend. It's Friday earnings of $3.8 million gave it third place for the day, pushing its domestic cume to $293.5 million.
In other new releases, Lionsgate's Willam Friedkin-directed horror tale "Bug" scared up $1.1 million from 1,661 theaters.
