Pixar's Upcoming Slate of Releases Features 2 'Nemos', Dinosaurs and Skeletons
Disney's hit-producing animation studio has a mix of sequels and original films coming in the next few years.
Pixar has some big adventures planned: underseas, back in time, into the spirit world and then right into the human brain.
A veritable box office smash assembly line, the computer animation pioneers have set up an eclectic slate for the coming years. On Tuesday, it was reported that director Andrew Stanton would return to helm a sequel to his smash hit aquatic adventure, Finding Nemo, set for a 2016 release. And that follows another upcoming Nemo release: the original, converted to 3D, will be re-released on September 14.
Already, Pixar has released two sequels to Toy Story, and one followup to Cars. And before Nemo gets its part two, the studio will release a sequel to 2001's Monsters, Inc., 2013's Monster's University.
Following the Monster's sequel will be 2014's The Good Dinosaur, a film that explores a world still ruled by dinosaurs. It will be co-directed by Bob Peterson, who co-helmed Up and co-wrote Nemo, and artist Peter Sohn. The studio released some info on that film at CinemaCon.
Next up will be a film about the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos, which involves the spirit world. It will be directed by Lee Unkrich, who helmed Toy Story 3. Thus far, it doesn't have a title, unless Disney decides to stick with The Untitled Pixar Movie about The Día de los Muertos, which seems unlikely, if only for marketing reasons.
Perhaps the most ambitious of all is the studio's plan to make a film about the inner-workings of the human mind. Due out on June 19, 2015 and blessed with the catchy title The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind, it will be directed by Pete Docter, who helped write the Toy Story films and wrote/directed Up and Monsters, Inc.
