PNC, High Point pact for 'Accident'

Horror film on tap with new partnership

NEW DELHI -- Pritish Nandy Communications and U.K.-based High Point Media Group will produce horror film “The Accident” starring Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja and actress Soha Ali Khan.

HPMG will handle international sales for the film -- which is in post -- the second new project it will handle for PNC, including “Last Chance Mumbai” (also in post). Written by Arindam Mitra and directed by Abhijit Chaudhiri, “Accident” centers around an upwardly mobile young couple who, after swapping their hectic life in Silicon Valley for a secluded bungalow back home in India, become subject to unexplained attacks of fear and start to see strange apparitions.

Ahuja, 36, hit the headlines about three months ago after he was jailed following a complaint filed by his maidservant that the actor allegedly raped her in his Mumbai apartment.

Last week, Ahuja was denied bail for the second time by a Mumbai sessions court while charges will be filed against him on September 23.

“Mumbai” features an ensemble cast and revolves around a 24-hour period in Mumbai, directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza.

In 2004, PNC and HPMG also pacted on “Bow Barracks Forever” set in Kolkata's Anglo-Indian community.

"Pritish Nandy continues to push the boundaries of convention with 'The Accident.' High Point is extremely well placed to handle a film of this genre, having handled a range of successful horrors and thrillers around the world, from George A Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead' to Peter Van Hees's award winning chiller, 'Left Bank,'" said HPMG managing director Carey Fitzgerald.

“Indian cinema is rich in its nuances and horror is its new playground," PNC chairman Pritish Nandy added.
