Experts predict the mobile gaming phenenomon will be hugely popular in the country.

Pokemon Go is set to launch in Russia later this week, the leading local business daily Vedomosti has reported.

The newspaper quoted two anonymous local sources as saying that Pokemon Go's Russian launch would occur before the end of the week.

Even before its official release, however, Pokemon Go is already extremely popular in Russia, where it has been actively discussed on social media. Many have registered accounts overseas where the game has launched in order to access it, while some local news outlets have published instructions on how to do so.

Alexander Kuzmenko, head of Games Mail.Ru, was quoted by National News Service as saying that Pokemon Go is likely to become hugely popular in Russia, where the mobile game segment has been growing at a rate of 20 percent a year.

Meanwhile, those playing the game are likely to face problems accessing some locations.

"Pokemon isn't a good reason to visit the Kremlin, a world culture gem," Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russia's president Vladimir Putin, said according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The local antivirus company Kaspersky Lab has also warned that a contaminated version of the game is circulating.
