NEW YORK -- CBS News has named Vaughn Ververs to the new position of senior political editor of CBSNews.com and promoted Brian Montopoli to succeed Ververs as editor of the site's Public Eye blog.

CBS News also appointed Steve Chaggaris as deputy political director of the network.

Ververs has been editor of Public Eye, the network's transparency and media blog, since it started in fall 2005. He joined CBS News from the Hotline, where he was editor. He also has worked at Fox News Channel and was deputy press secretary for Pat Buchanan's 1992 presidential run. His new job will give him responsibility for daily and long-term political coverage for CBSNews.com.

Montopoli has been a writer and editor for the Public Eye since it began.

Chaggaris will help design and execute the political coverage for CBS News, reporting to political director Molly Levinson. He had been a Washington-based producer for CBS News and joined the network as a researcher/associate producer in 1999. He also has worked for C-SPAN.
