The Pope Joins Twitter, Sends His First Tweet

Even The Pope is on Twitter.

"Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI," he wrote on Tuesday.

The Vatican's official news Twitter page has over 40,000 followers as of Wednesday morning.

Mediabistro reports that the Vatican’s president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications headed up the site’s launch, and that Madrid-based digital media company 101 designed and developed the site.

The site's launch comes as the Pope celebrates the 60th anniversary of his ordination into priesthood.
